Curriculum & Call Schedules

We are proud of our innovative, protected didactics, our emphasis on wellness,
and our resident-designed call schedules.

Innovative and Evolving

We are priveliged to care for and learn from our diverse patient population at a wide-array of training sites. As with any program this size, there are a lot of moving parts. Below are the more technical aspects of our robust training schedule. Our program stays agile and flexible through a biannual quality improvement retreat in which residents brainstorm and draft proposals for redesigning and enhancing critical aspects of our residency. Our night float schedule below was the product of one of our recent retreats.

Our faculty approach didactics with a similar spirit of innovation. For example, we divided into groups and put on mini dramatic performances about the stages of childhood development to teach each other during a recent intensive PRITE review session. Many neuroscience didactics include blank diagrams of the brain for residents to label and color with lecture content.

Didactic Schedule & Wellness Days

Each Thursday afternoon, didactic time is protected. Attendings cover their respective sites so that residents can focus on widening their psychiatric scope through creative and innovative lectures. Once per month, Thursday afternoon is occupied by a required group wellness activity (carving pumpkins, lazer tag, face masks, escape room, scavenger hunt, swimming, etc.).

Grand Rounds and Summer Wellness Series

During Fall, Winter, and Spring, we have a protected hour for Grand Rounds every Wednesday at noon. Our own PGY-3 and PGY-4 residents present as well as distinguished speakers from around the country.

During the summer months, we have a series of interactive lectures that focus on various aspects of wellness in place of grand rounds. Past topics have included meditation, weight-lifting, yoga, spirituality, and art therapy.
